Home Gym Space Planning: The UK Guide
Don't believe the footprint. Here is the real working space you need for popular equipment in smaller UK rooms.
The number one mistake buyers make is measuring the machine relative to the room, but forgetting the *user* relative to the machine.
January Context: In the rush to 'get fit now', many buyers order equipment that literally doesn't fit. Nothing kills a new year resolution faster than having to return a 300kg crate because you forgot about ceiling height.
Functional Trainers (The Width Trap)
A machine like the Life Fitness G7 might only be 1.2m wide on paper. But to perform a cable fly, YOU are the width. You need your arm span (approx 2m) plus clearance. Rule of Thumb: Allow 2.5m total width.
Treadmills (The Length Trap)
You physically need space behind a treadmill for safety. If you fall, you don't want to hit a wall instantly. Rule of Thumb: Always leave at least 1m clear space behind the deck.
Ceiling Height
Most multi-gyms are 2.1m tall. But can you do a pull-up? Your head goes above the bar. If you have 2.3m ceilings, verify your pull-up clearance.
